An Open Letter by the Inventor of the Internet

“We have four days to save the open Internet in Europe.” An open letter by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Professor Larry Lessig, and Professor Barbara van Schewick.

Today, the inventor of the Word Wide Web Tim Berners-Lee, Larry Lessig, and Barbara van Schewick published an open letter to European citizens, law makers and regulators.

Entitled “We have four days to save the open Internet in Europe,” the letter:
  • urges regulators to make changes in four key areas to secure meaningful net neutrality in Europe; and
  • urges Europeans to take action by participating in the public consultation.
Four days before the end of the public consultation on net neutrality in Europe, the letter could be a game-changer in the debate over the future of the Internet in Europe.
The letter is available here:

What’s happening & why it matters:

Last fall, the European Union adopted a net neutrality law that was widely viewed as the end of net neutrality in Europe. Now regulators are writing guidelines to determine how the law will be applied in practice. What most people don’t know: These guidelines could still secure net neutrality in Europe — if regulators use them to close potential loopholes in the law.
Until July 18, the public has an opportunity to comment on the draft guidelines in a public consultation. While the draft guidelines are promising, they need to be improved in four key areas, described in the letter, to provide meaningful net neutrality in Europe. The letter urges regulators to make these changes.
So far, the consultation has received little public attention. That’s a big problem. The carriers are lobbying furiously to water down the guidelines. Their latest move: Last Wednesday, the 17 largest telecom companies in Europe threatened not to invest in the next generation of 5G mobile networks unless regulators water down the guidelines. Their efforts are getting traction: EU commissioner Oettinger, the commissioner in charge of this proceeding, published the manifesto on the Commission’s website and lauded it on Twitter.
Unless people speak up now, regulators will not be able to withstand this pressure and we will lose net neutrality in Europe after all. In India and the United States, millions of people participated in the public consultations on net neutrality. Their voices were a key factor that motivated regulators to adopt strong net neutrality rules in these countries.

Key quotes from the letter:

“Network neutrality for hundreds of millions of Europeans is within our grasp. Securing this is essential to preserve the open Internet as a driver for economic growth and social progress. But the public needs to tell regulators now to strengthen safeguards, and not cave in to telecommunications carriers’ manipulative tactics.”
“We – the ordinary users of the Internet – don’t have expensive lobbyists. But we have millions of people – everyday Europeans, startups, investors, small businesses, activists, NGOs, bloggers, independent artists – who have experienced the power of the open Internet first hand and want to protect it.”
“The Internet has become the critical infrastructure of our time – for our daily life, for our economy, for our democracy. Strong guidelines will protect the future of competition, innovation, and creative expression in Europe, enhancing Europe’s ability to lead in the digital economy. They will ensure that every European, no matter the color of their skin or the size of their wallets, has an equal chance to innovate, compete, speak, organize, and connect online.”
“There are four areas that regulators need to get right to secure meaningful net neutrality in Europe:
1. Ban Fast Lanes: Regulators need to close a loophole that could allow carriers to offer special “fast lanes” to normal websites and applications for a fee.
2. Ban Zero-rating: Regulators need to ban harmful forms of zero-rating.
3. Ban Discrimination: Regulators need to prevent carriers from discriminating among classes of traffic to manage their networks.
4. Protect Internet Access: Regulators need to prohibit new “specialized” services from taking over bandwidth that people bought to access the Internet.”
“Telecom regulators can still protect net neutrality in Europe – if they make the key changes described above. We urge regulators to make these changes. And we urge you to contact those regulators before July 18th and let them know the public supports strong network neutrality guidelines.“
“We have four days to save the open Internet in Europe. Let’s use them.”

European Website Owners - Save the Internet!

European Regulators are about to decide whether to give big telecoms corporations the power to influence what we can (and can’t) do online.

Europe urgently needs clear net neutrality guidelines to protect our freedoms and rights online. We have until July to help Europe protect the open Internet.

As EU Net Neutrality Debate Ramps Up, even Groups That Won Net Neutrality in the U.S. Launch Protest.

For European website owners it becomes important now to participate and join the movement. "The Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications" (BEREC) has to be informed about concerns regarding Net Neutrality by showing a badge on European websites as well as sending messages to BEREC.

The Internet has to remain neutral and not monetized by major Internet Service Providers. Their plan is to support websites paying much money to them in order to have fast access guaranteed, and to slow down the others.

Watch this video to learn more on what might happen:

On June 28th, 2016, websites from across the globe will participate in “The EU Slowdown,” an online protest showing people what the Internet would be like if Europe fails to protect net neutrality.

Websites will display a spinning “loading” icon based on Europe’s flag and provide visitors with tools for easily submitting pro-net neutrality comments to BEREC, the European Union regulatory body currently deciding on the issue.

The day of action is being organized by Fight for the Future, the group that built the Battle for the Net and Internet Slowdown actions that helped to win net neutrality in the United States. The group has launched and is currently organizing websites to participate in the action. Mozilla, makers of popular web browser Firefox, has already begun encouraging its European users to file comments, at

To participate in the June 28th Internet Slowdown, people who own websites, blogs, or Tumblr accounts can easily host a “slow loading” widget by embedding a line of code provided by Fight for the Future.

The widget will pop up and greet everyone who visits sites that use the code, drawing attention to the issue and making it simple for them submit comments to BEREC urging the to close the loopholes and enact strong rules to protect the Internet in Europe.

The big day of action will be on the 28th, but we’re asking gung-ho supporters and smaller sites to put our countdown widget on their sites right now!

A free Global Internet controlled by people for people.

Recently three men started a project to return the Internet to what it was meant to be.

As you may have read within the last few years there's a huge war going on about who controls the Internet. It's all about monetizing and censoring.

+ The ones who want to monetize and make big profits are the major ISP's like AT&T, Verizon, Comcast etc.
+ The ones who want to censor are the governments of our world.

Do you - the Internet user - agree with activities like these? Thank you for your honest reply: NO!

+ CommHubb wants to get the Internet back to a Global Free Internet.

+ Without censorship and major monetizing corporations involved.

+ CommHubb is in pre-launch to become a Global Free High Speed ISP.

+ CommHubb wants this ISP owned and controlled by people for the people.

This project is simple, but major effective. CommHubb supports itself with advertising partners. Already after their first month of just being in pre-launch they are in profit and work self-sufficient. Read their first press release at Newswire.

As a THANK YOU to people who sign up already now during their pre-launch condition every person signing up receives automatically 5 shares + 5 profit sharing units. Therefore, from the moment you signed up you are entitled to participate on monthly profit share. The current owners just request 5% of the profit made for themselves. Everything else will be spread among this fast growing community.

Once CommHubb will hit the 10 million member mark they plan to join stock-exchange. Guess the value each share will gain from this moment. Just remember back to Microsoft and Google once they joined stock exchange. Their early shares also exploded within short time. Many owners of these early shares became millionaires.

Signing up is free and being a member also is free - for ever!

Passive or active members/owners are welcome. You can just sit and watch your stock and profit sharing grow or you can refer others and earn much more!

CommHubb even offers jobs already after their first month of existence. And more to come soon the more they will gain members. Currently they look for a Senior Marketing Manager, Press Release Writer, Staff to respond to contact emails, etc.

Everyone who likes to have a Global Free Internet without censorship is welcome. Read more about CommHubb on their website.

Windows 7 - End of Mainstream Support - What now?

Windows 7 grew 5 years old, which means there's no mainstream support anymore.

Still, there are another 5 years left until support for Windows 7 will be totally stopped.

The main question on these news ... what's best to do?

I haven't met anyone yet, who liked Windows 8.1. Nobody knows how Windows 10 will be. Usually every second Microsoft release is a useful one. Will be Windows 10 one of those?

Another drag on Windows is its purchase price and vulnerability. $100 or more for an operating system? No wonder there are that many pirated copies out there. Additional Windows users have to fight and protect against viruses, worms, and other malware sent out on a daily basis to poison innocent peoples computers. And useful protection software makes your pocket empty ;-)

So again, what's the best to do?

There are alternatives!

Of course, there is Apple's OSX and iOS. But nobody knows how long both systems will be supported. Apple silences itself out about that.

Another alternative? What about Ubuntu?

NakedSecurity, the Computer Security Newsletter of Sophos, talks about a support cycle of 5 years of each Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Release) version, which is correct.

The advantage is Ubuntu is a donation based operating system. You may download and use it for free. Of course Ubuntu will be happy about every donation since it will support and ease up creating further releases. It is an easy task to upgrade from one LTS to the next LTS release.

I myself became an Ubuntu fan over the years, using this operating system for 6 years already. I never had troubles with this OS up to now.

What is that special on Ubuntu?

It is the most advanced operating system on the market. Ubuntu is Linux based and Linux is the development system for every operating system, even Windows. Microsoft just converts new developments for Windows.
And most important ... Ubuntu just works, has many features Windows lacks of, and ... it is virus resistant.

Ello - The Perfect Facebook Replacement?

Ello - A new Social Network is coming. Ello is AD-FREE, a PBC, supported by its community, and understands the meaning of privacy.

Ello is a simple, beautiful, and ad-free social network created by a small group of artists and designers.

All other social networks are ad-supported and torture their members with ads and tempting product offers. Therefore word of mouth about Ello as an ad-free social network spread extreme fast at social network communities that registering at Ello is possible by invitation only, currently.

Read Ello's manifesto:

"Your social network is owned by advertisers.

Every post you share, every friend you make and every link you follow is tracked, recorded and converted into data. Advertisers buy your data so they can show you more ads. You are the product that’s bought and sold.

We believe there is a better way. We believe in audacity. We believe in beauty, simplicity and transparency. We believe that the people who make things and the people who use them should be in partnership.

We believe a social network can be a tool for empowerment. Not a tool to deceive, coerce and manipulate — but a place to connect, create and celebrate life.

You are not a product."

Windows 10 - The Perfect Mixture of Windows 7 and 8?

Microsoft unveils a first look at Windows 10, highlighting enterprise advancements and open collaboration.

Windows XP was Microsoft's first great innovation. Windows 7 was a blast. If we can believe Microsoft Windows 10 will become the best release ever.

So seen it is great to receive the news that Microsoft opened the doors to open collaboration. Finally the public with good computer knowledge have been invited to join shaping features and surface starting from Windows 10 up.

“Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows, unlocking new experiences to give customers new ways to work, play and connect,” said Terry Myerson, executive vice president of the Operating Systems group at Microsoft. “This will be our most comprehensive operating system and the best release Microsoft has ever done for our business customers, and we look forward to working together with our broader Windows community to bring Windows 10 to life in the months ahead.”

So, what's new on Windows 10?

Windows 10 Insider Program

As stated earlier in this post already, the public are invited to join shaping new Windows releases. Of course "insiders" have to have good computer skills since the releases they receive will still be in development condition, therefore not as stable as necessary for the standard user.

Windows Insiders will be able to give feedback on early builds of the product throughout the development cycle. They also may implement suggestions as well as give hints on issues and much more. Detailed information on the Windows Insider Program and the technical preview can be found at

Windows 10 - familiarity and consistency across devices

The user will not have to adapt to different surfaces on his device. User will discover one and the same surface on all his devices - PC, tablet, phone, X-Box etc. - No adjustment to each surface of different devices will increase productivity.

Windows 10 - designed for the challenges of modern business

Windows 10 builds nearly everything that businesses need right into the core of the product. Enterprise-grade security, identity and information protection features - all in ways that can reduce complexities and provide better experiences than other solutions.

One more major advancement: User identity was improved in resistance to breach, theft or phishing. Also against data loss Microsoft created a new solution.

Upgrading from Windows 7 or 8 is much easier than ever before. Everything will work in-place. Business' will have the choice to decide on how fast they want to adopt to latest Windows innovations and - may customize their app stores according to their needs throughout their internal network.

Technical preview PC productivity

+ Expanded Start menu.
+ Apps that run in a window.
+ Snap enhancements.
+ New Task view button.
+ Multiple desktops - A major advancement in productivity - create and switch between desktops.
